The award is the result of a comprehensive audit by EcoVardis, the leading supplier sustainability ratings system which takes into account 21 CSR indicators under four categories; Environment, Social, Ethics and Supply Chain. Covering 140 countries, the widely respected EcoVardis methodology is aligned with international CSR standards including the United Nations Global Compact, ISO 26000 and the Global Reporting Initiative.

In the CSR evaluation program’s sector specific ratings, Mexichem Specialty Compounds performed even better, achieving a placement in the top 1.39 percent of plastics manufacturers worldwide.

The news comes after a year in which Mexichem continued its CSR drive across multiple fronts including Economic Development, Environmental Protection and Social Progress.

A focus on diversification of markets, stakeholder relationships and vertical integration has allowed Mexichem to play a positive role in the Economic Development of countries in which it operates.

Environmentally, the organisation has successfully achieved its objective of water and energy use optimization through initiatives including the installation of high-efficient motors. Other initiatives have included the continuation of a mission to cut both GHG emissions and industrial waste generation.

Michael Morrisroe, Global SH&E Manager at Mexichem Specialty Compounds, explained that the EcoVardis Gold Standard rating represents the culmination of efforts from a wide ranging, long term sustainability campaign.

“At Mexichem Specialty Compounds we view CSR as a hugely important principle embedded in our core company values. It is always satisfying to be recognized for achievements, and congratulations must be extended to every employee who has devoted themselves to CSR and other sustainability initiatives. This EcoVardis CSR Gold Standard award is a reflection of continued successes and awards to date, but this is only the beginning. We will continue to ensure we are making a positive impact on an economic, environmental and social level.” -- Mr Michael Morrisroe
